# Laval interlocking paver driveways | National Asphalte

National Asphalte, an excavation and asphalt paving contractor in Laval, the North Shore and Montreal.

You choose the colour and the pattern, and we build the driveway layer by layer.

National Asphalte installs interlocking pavers in Laval, on the North Shore and in Montreal, both for driveways and for walkways. Our crew digs out the ground first, then lays the pavers on a crushed stone base. You deal with one company. The estimate is free.

## What lies under your pavers

Our crew builds your driveway in layers.

1. **We dig.** The excavator removes the topsoil and the soft soil, down to firm ground.
2. **We build the stone base.** We spread the crushed stone in layers and compact them.
3. **We spread a layer of sand.** We level it with a long straight board over the stone base, which keeps a gentle slope to carry rain away from the house.
4. **We lay the pavers.** The pavers go into the pattern you chose, and a [curb](/en/curbs) holds the edges.
5. **We fill the joints.** Sand fills the joints, then the plate compactor settles the pavers.

The stone base carries the weight of the cars, and the sand keeps each paver at the right height.

## From where you park to your door

Interlocking pavers cover the driveway where you park. They continue as a walkway toward the door, and as steps where the ground rises. You choose the colour and the pattern of the pavers. Where the ground changes level, we build a [natural stone](/en/natural-stone) wall. For a driveway in one continuous piece, we also lay [asphalt](/en/asphalt-paving).

## How interlocking pavers are repaired

Interlocking pavers can be repaired piece by piece. A stained or cracked paver comes out, and a new one takes its place. If you ever need to dig underneath, for a pipe or a drain, we lift the pavers. They go back in place once the work is done.

## Common questions

### How much does an interlocking paver driveway cost?

The price depends on the size of the driveway, your property and the pavers you choose. A driveway that needs a lot of excavation costs more than one that is already at the right level. National Asphalte does the estimate for free. Call 514-812-3445 or fill out the quote request, with photos of your property if you have any.

### Why are my pavers sinking?

Pavers sink when their stone base gives way. Soft soil left underneath, or poorly compacted crushed stone, settles little by little under the weight of the cars. To repair it, we lift the pavers in the area that dropped and rebuild the base. The same pavers then go back in place. National Asphalte does all kinds of repairs.

### Interlocking pavers or asphalt, which is best for my driveway?

Both make a good driveway when the stone base is done right. Asphalt covers a large area in one continuous piece, with no joints. Interlocking pavers shape the driveway with colours and patterns, and can be repaired piece by piece. National Asphalte installs both, so we advise you based on your property and your taste, at no charge.
